Our PureMSK FDA-cleared surgical masks are designed to be disposable after 24 hours of use. If your mask is damaged or soiled, or if breathing through the mask becomes difficult, you should remove the face mask, discard it safely, and replace it with a new one. If you think you have been exposed to viral particles, it’s recommended that you dispose of the mask after such use and use a new one the next time. Our proprietary electro spun material is durable; however, we caution you to be aware of your environment and what you and the mask may have been exposed to. At this time, we do not recommend washing or disinfecting the mask. We are aware of some advice on the internet that suggests polypropylene masks can be disinfected using 75% ethyl alcohol but we have not tested this practice ourselves.
The dimensions for the PureMSK Regular masks are 75mm x 207mm and the dimensions for the Small mask are 55mm x 175mm. The mask then expands to cover the nose and the chin for a comfortable and secure fit.
PureMSK is the only US-made FDA-cleared surgical mask (a Class II medical device) that features our proprietary ‘electro spun’ filter (the middle layer of three) that is thin and breathable while also blocking 96-98%+ of particles down to 0.3 microns (see this NIOSH test report for more details). The ultra-thin filter allows for all-day breathability and comfort, a combination not found in any other commercially available surgical mask.
Note: PureMSK mask is NOT A NIOSH approved N95 respirator. All N95s have a double head band and PureMSK uses an ear loop design.
Our masks come in 10-pack pouches. These eco-friendly pouches have a zip-closure at the top, so you can re-seal the package for safety and convenience.
To determine which PureMSK face mask size (large or small) might be right for you, start by measuring the distance from the bridge of your nose to the back of your ear. If that number is larger than 13cm (5 inches) you are probably a good candidate for our Large masks. Generally speaking, we would recommend a mask that is a bit too large rather than one that is a bit too small. That’s because you can tie the ear loops to shorten them, thus tightening the mask’s overall fit on your face.
Our ’small’ PureMSK surgical masks were previously marketed as ‘kids’ masks. These masks are exactly the same masks as before and exactly the same masks as our larger masks, just 15% smaller.
Yes, PureMSK FDA-cleared surgical masks are 100% the same masks that used to be sold in individual packs. We modified our packaging to be more eco-friendly, but PureMSK remains the same, highly effective mask we have always produced.
Nano Air Mask was a reseller of our PureMSK FDA-cleared surgical masks. A while ago they launched a face mask brand called Desavo that is made of different materials and is not FDA-cleared as a surgical mask. While we certainly welcome competition, this move by our reseller has unfortunately caused some confusion.
Our FDA-cleared surgical masks were tested by NIOSH and they determined that PureMSK filtration performance achieved 96-98% efficiency, which exceeds the minimum requirement for an N95 respirator. See this NIOSH test report for more details.
Despite its superior filtration efficiency, PureMSK cannot be approved as an N95 respirator because our mask uses an ear loop design, rather than head straps. NIOSH requires head straps, which provide a tighter fit. We like ear loops because they are much more comfortable for all-day wear.
